Jenny Rogers
I was brought up in a home surrounded by diverse styles of music. Being self-taught on the piano and playing from the age of 5, I remember my father playing while I sat at the soundboard of the piano with my body pressed up against it to “feel” the music. My early influences were my father, Dr. Brooks, Benny Goodman, Pete Fountain, Johnny Cash, the Chicago Symphony, the Carpenters, Barbara Streisand, Barry Manilow, and many other various artists.
My interest in music enveloped many styles, from classical to jazz, country to pop, instrumental to contemporary. For many years I studied the clarinet and became proficient enough to be offered a chair in the Peoria Symphony at age 17 as well as be accepted into Julliard that same year. Sadly, I did not attend due to family events.
As a young adult, my husband and I played at many rodeos in Texas with our band called, “Witness.” We wrote and recorded our first album in Lake Jackson, Tx.
With Rooks Recording Studio, which got us our first radio airtime. We traveled around Texas playing not only at rodeos but in many of the prisons and hard-core penitentiaries. We brought a well-rounded style of music to those venues singing with a mass choir aimed at showing unity between blacks and whites and also bringing love and light into very dark places. My husband and I lead worship in many different churches as well, from Southern Baptist to the Friend’s Church and several denominations in between, finding that music is a bridge to our differences and a key to unlocking hearts.
Teaching voice and piano have been a passion of mine for the past 15 years. I love to instill the desire to create songs and music through the realization of who we are created to be. Young and old are my inspiration to continue sharing the knowledge and depth of who I am musically and spiritually; beyond the notes and touching the soul. I currently give private lessons and record with my husband, Fred with our group, “Tziyon’s Call.” I can be contacted through holyinspirations777@gmail.com or at (319) 360-1128.
